PLT IWD #MyDressDoesntMeanYes campaign
With 55% of men believing that ‘the more revealing th clothes a woman wears, the more likely it is that she will be harassed or assaulted’ it's critical to use International Women’s Day (and every other day) to stamp out the stigma that what you’re wearing gives someone else the right to your body.
Over the last twenty years, studies in the United States and across the world, have found that psychiatrists, judges, jurors, and students believe that a woman wearing a revealing outfit is more likely to be attacked or sexually harassed than a modestly dressed woman, and if attacked, that she is partially responsible for her assault, and her attacker is less culpable.
Society must do better and break down this stigma of female dressing ever meaning yes.
To draw attention to these shocking stats and help charities supporting sexual violence victims, Global Fashion Retailer, PrettyLittleThing have launched an anti-rape campaign in partnership with charities across the globe.
Offering slogan tote bags with the message #MyDressDoesntMeanYes and a selected range of dresses, you can now join the initiative and support the movement through buying a bag or dress from a dedicated category where 100% of profits go to global charities providing infrastructure support to victims of rape and sexual abuse. Charities include Charities include The Survivors Trust, Its On Us, End Rape On Campus and En Avant Toutes.
The donation period is taking place from the 8th – 15th March.
Support Sexual Assault Victims This IWD with the #MyDressDoesntMeanYes Tote Bag
Proceeds from US sales will be going to Its On Us and End Rape On Campus.
End Rape On Campus (EROC) works to end campus sexual violence through direct support for survivors and their communities; prevention through education; and policy reform at the campus, local, state, and federal levels. They work towards the envision of a world in which each individual has an educational experience free from violence, and until then, that all survivors are believed, trusted, and supported.
Founded in 2014 as an initiative of the Obama-Biden White House, It’s On Us is building a movement to combat campus sexual assualt by engaging all students, including young men, and activating the largest student organizing program of its kind in education programs. With more than 300+ college campus chapters, their work is grounded in a peer-to-peer sexual assault prevention education model that empowers students to teach one another sexual assault awareness and consent education, bystander intervention, and survivor support.
Proceeds from all UK sales will be going to The Survivors Trust and French proceeds will be going to En Avant Toutes.
Society must do better: My dress does not mean yes.
